水田 拓郎 Takuro Mizuta Lippit

音楽家、DJ、キュレーター、通訳・翻訳家。慶應大学文学部美学美術史学専攻卒業、Master’s in Professional Studies (N.Y.U. I.T.P.)、Ph.D. in Music, Sound, Performance (De Montfort University Music & Audio Technology) 。2005年に文化庁新進芸術家海外研修制度でオランダへ。2012年までアムステルダムのSTEIM電子楽器スタジオでリサーチ、キュレーション、レジデンシープログラムを取りまとめるアーティスティック・ディレクターを務め、2012年香港に移住。2017年まで香港城市大學創意媒體學院で客員助教授。2014年からは大友良英らとともにアジアの実験的な音楽家たちを集めるアジアン・ミーティング・フェスティバル（AMF）のコ・ディレクターを務める。国内では国際交流基金、札幌国際芸術祭、ゲーテ・インスティトゥート東京、アーツカウンシル東京の主催事業の企画・制作・監修など。国外ではCTM（ドイツ）、 Jazz em Agosto （ポルトガル）、Flow Festival （フィンランド）などの音楽フェスティバルへの招聘、またレバノンやイギリスなどのレーベルから録音作品をリリースしている。

Takuro Mizuta Lippit is a turntablist, DJ, curator and translator. He holds a B.A. in aesthetics and art history from Keio University, M.P.S. from NYU Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and Ph.D. in Music, Sound, Performance from De Montfort University Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. From 2007-2012, he was Artistic Director of STEIM - Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music leading the institution’s research, artist in residency program, and concert series. Between 2012-2017, he was Visiting Assistant Professor at City University Hong Kong School of Creative Media. Since 2014, he is Co-Director of Asian Meeting Festival (AMF) with Otomo Yoshihide and Yuen Cheewai, bringing together experimental musicians from all around Asia and hosting festivals in Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Taiwan. His musical work builds upon a distinct practice that combines DJing, instrument design and free improvisation and has been featured at CTM Berlin, Warsaw Autumn, Flow Festival Helsinki, REDCAT LA, March Meeting Sharjah, Jazz em Agosto Lisbon, Taipei Art Festival. He has released recorded work from labels around the world. 

僕の様々な活動の原点には「聴く」という行為があります。それは音楽にとどまらず、様々なことを理解する手段であると同時に自己表現や芸術作品にもなりえます。また他者への寛容性や交流を深めるために非常に有用なスキルだと思っています。音楽や音だけでなく時間や空間、文化や政治を聴くということがどういうことなのかをみなさんと一緒に考え、そして実際に体験できたらいいなと思います。

The act of “listening” is at the core of everything I do. Listening is not only for the reception of music, but is a powerful way to acquire knowledge and can become a form of expression or an artwork. It also encourages tolerance and understanding towards others. I hope we can extend our listening beyond music and sound, and think and experience together what it means to listen to time and space or to culture and politics.
